Man who attacked ex-girlfriend with panga, makes first court appearance at Rundu

RUNDU, 17 OCT (NAMPA) – A 30-year-old man made his first appearance in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Monday for allegedly hacking his ex-girlfriend with a panga.
Markus Olavi Sivute appeared before Magistrate Helen Olaiya, who refused him bail owing to the seriousness of the offence and in the interest of justice.
His case was remanded to 08 November for final investigation.
It is alleged that Sivute was seen chasing his ex- girlfriend from her room with a panga before she fell and he hacked her on the head and wrists. He then allegedly hit the panga behind a hut and ran away.
The incident happened at Ou-cordon village in the Kavango West Region.
In a separate matter, a 32-year-old woman was arrested last Friday for selling liquor without a licence at the Kawe village.
Namibian Police Head of the Operational Division in the Kavango West Region, Deputy Commissioner Peter William told Nampa on Monday the woman appeared before the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Monday, and was given a fine of N.dollars 500.
