ONGWEDIVA, 05 NOV (NAMPA) The Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) executive members in the Oshana Region on Saturday elected 10 delegates for the partys elective national convention slated for Windhoek this weekend.
They are Eino Heelu, Henry Namhunja, Nelson Katenda, Lebeus Hamata, Salmi Benjamen, Maria Samuel, Roney Petrus, Emilia Weyulu, Andreas Vatilifa and Rebekka Kefas.
Heelu, who is RDP secretary for information in the Oshana Region, revealed this to Nampa on Monday, saying the delegates were elected from 78 people who were available for elections during the conference in Ongwediva, and they will join some 30 other delegates elected at district level as participants to the same national convention.
The 40 delegates then elected Heelu, Katenda, Robert Munalye, Hamata, Benjamen and Kefas to vie for positions in the central committee of the RDP at the convention.
The people in the Oshana Region have one belief that all three comrades - Hidipo Hamutenya, Kandy Nehova and Jeremiah Nambinga, who have shown interest in the position of party president - are to be respected as tested leaders in the party, and thus they have a constitutional right to stand, Heelu noted.
He added that RDP members in the Oshana Region distanced themselves from what he termed 'cheap politics' of hating one of the three presidential candidates in favour of the other.
After all, what is important at the end of the day is the party and not individuals. We formed this party to remain strong and one day rule Namibia, thus we cannot afford to kill it at its infant stage, Heelu charged.
Meanwhile, reliable sources informed this agency over the weekend that a chaotic atmosphere erupted whilst Nambinga was introducing himself as a RDP presidential candidate during the partys elective conference for the Ohangwena Region held at the Onhuno village also on Saturday.
Delegates to the Ohangwena regional conference rejected his candidacy by singing songs praising HH (Hidipo Hamutenya) in front of him (Nambinga), the sources said.
