Welwitschias in narrow defeat against Boland Cavaliers

WINDHOEK, 08 OCT (NAMPA) - The Windhoek Draught Welwitschias narrowly lost their last game of the 2017 Currie Cup First Division 24-26 against the Boland Cavaliers at the Swakopmund Central Field on Saturday.
Despite losing the game, the Namibian team managed to pick up two bonus points for scoring four tries in the match and losing within two points.
They have won two of the seven games played in the competition this season and finished seventh on the log of eight teams with 14 points.
On Saturday, the Welwitschias stood their ground as they led the game 12-7 at half time. They continued with their dominance in the second half but their more experienced opponents caused an upset with only two minutes to go when they ran in their last try of the match, which gave them the 24-26 win.
With the Currie Cup First Division matches coming to an end, Down Touch Griffons won the division with 31 points from six wins and one loss. Hino Valke finished second with 26 points, while the Leopards finished third on the log with 24 points.
The Windhoek Draught Welwitschias try scorers are Johan Tromp, Mahco Prinsloo, Lesley Klim, and David Philander; while the conversions scorer was Theuns Kotze (two).
