KALKFELD, 06 OCT (NAMPA) - A new kindergarten was officially opened at Kalkfeld in the Otjozondjupa Region on Thursday.
The four-classroom building was constructed at a cost of nearly N.dollars 586 000 by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare.
Deputy Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, Lucia Witbooi officially inaugurated the complex and handed it over to the community.
Witbooi said giving children a strong foundation through early childhood development is the best investment for any society.
“Children exposed to quality early childhood development are less likely to repeat grades and stand a chance to reach university and later secure high paying jobs,” said the deputy minister.
Witbooi then urged community members to enrol their children in the kindergarten and to assist caregivers at the centre in any manner they can.
Parents at the event told Nampa it feels good to see a structure dedicated to their children’s learning, growth and development near their homes.
“All parents here have been waiting for it to come,” said Veronica Geises.
Suoma Hatutale was happy to see that the building is fenced off, saying it gives her peace of mind knowing her three-year-old daughter would be safe while at the kindergarten.
The Kalkfeld settlement falls under Otjiwarongo Constituency Councillor Julius Neumbo, who was present at the event.
He said the centre has four trained caregivers who receive monthly allowances of N.dollars 1 500 from Government for their services.
Neumbo urged community members to enrol their children here.
