ONGWEDIVA, 03 OCT (NAMPA) – The Police in the Oshikoto Region on Monday arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly raping a girl of 13 years at Onakankuzi West village in the region during July this year.
Deputy Commissioner Naomi Katjiua of the Oshikoto Namibian Police Force Crime Investigation Coordination Unit in a crime report issued on Tuesday said the suspect raped the victim on two separate occasions.
According to the Police report, the suspect is a neighbour to the victim.
“It is alleged that the suspect had sexual intercourse with the minor (girl) under coercive circumstances in his sleeping room and in the hut at the victim’s house,” reads Katjiua’s regional crime report.
She went on to say the victim reported the incident to her mother, who registered the case with the Police at Omuthiya on Monday, and the suspect was arrested afterwards.
The victim is a Grade 6 learner at a local school.
Meanwhile, in a separate regional crime report issued on Monday, Katjiua said a pick-up that was stolen from Ekulo village near Omuthiya on 28 September, was recovered.
Katjiua said the vehicle was found by people who notified the owner, who then recovered the vehicle along the Onyati-Onahenene gravel road on Monday.
“The vehicle was found in good condition, but with no fuel in the tank,” she said. It belongs to 76-year-old Thomas Nakaziko, a resident of Ekulo village.
Unknown suspects allegedly drove away Nakaziko’s vehicle that was parked outside his homestead at the said village on 28 September at around 21h30.
Nobody has been arrested in connection with the theft.
