WINDHOEK, 02 OCT (NAMPA) - The 44-year-old woman who was physically assaulted at Khorixas last Thursday, has died.
Albertina Uugulu died in the Katutura State Hospital in Windhoek on Sunday.
The crime investigation coordinator of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in Kunene, Deputy Commissioner Rudolf Kanyetu confirmed her death on Monday.
The two suspects that were charged with attempted murder are now facing a charge of murder, Kanyetu said.
The police arrested Epson Awaseb, 30, and Zedekias Aibeb, 35, in connection with the matter after they had the victims mobile phone in their possession.
Uugulu was assaulted last Thursday between 03h00 and 06h00 in the Donkerhoek settlement. It is alleged that the victim had come home at that time after visiting a friend. Neighbours alerted the same friend of the commotion at the victims house and the friend went to investigate. She found Uugulu unconscious in bed, half naked with multiple injuries.
Police and medical personnel were called to the scene to attend to the victim, who later that day was rushed to the Katutura State Hospital in Windhoek.
Awaseb and Aibeb appeared in the Khorixas Magistrates Court on Monday and were denied bail. Their case was postponed to 09 November 2017 for further police investigations.
