WINDHOEK, 30 SEP (NAMPA) – The City of Windhoek will host its first Girl’s Leadership Conference on 04 November.
The City’s Council, during a monthly meeting on Thursday, approved a proposal for the hosting of the conference.
More than 100 girls between the ages of 14 and 19 from different schools in the city will join girls from the city’s Junior Council to participate in the leadership conference.
The girls will participate in leadership training and engage in a skills-based workshop, which will cover topics such as health, inner strength and good choices, reproductive health and sexuality as well as the rights and responsibilities of a young girl child.
The council resolution report indicated that the conference would expand and refine the leadership skills of the participants to drive change in their current setting and draw an action plan for implementation in their schools and communities.
First Lady, Monica Geingos and Deputy Mayor, Fransina Kahungu are expected to mentor the young girls who will attend the conference.
The report further indicates that a total of N.dollars 50 000 has been availed for the organisation of the conference from the N.dollars 350 000 budget of the Orphans and Vulnerable Children Support and Mentorship Programme for the 2017/18 financial year.
The one-day conference is expected to become a permanent fixture on the city’s annual calendar.
