WINDHOEK, 28 SEP (NAMPA) - A 30-year-old woman died on Thursday morning after she was hit by a vehicle on the A1 road at Brakwater.
City Police Public Relations Officer, Fabian Amukwelele told Nampa Thursday the woman, accompanied by other women, was walking to fetch firewood. They spotted an oncoming vehicle and ran over the road, but the now deceased woman was not fast enough and the vehicle hit her. She died on the spot.
He said the accident occurred around 06h00 close to the weigh-bridge at Brakwater, about 20 kilometre north of Windhoek.
The driver of the vehicle, a 36-year-old woman, escaped without injuries but was taken to the hospital for medical examination, Amukwelele said.
He cautioned members of the public not to cross that portion of the road but to rather use the weigh-bridge and to wear reflective clothing.
“Drivers must be extra careful when driving and remain within the speed limits,” Amukwelele pleaded.
