WINDHOEK, 27 SEP (NAMPA) – Salute Boxing Academy is promising fireworks for its upcoming boxing tournament to be held as part of the first Otji Fest edition at Paresis Stadium in Otjiwarongo on Saturday.
This was revealed by Armas Shivute, the spokesperson of the boxing academy at a media conference held at a local hotel in Windhoek.
“We are grateful to the organisers of the Otji Festival for allowing us to be part of this festival. On the boxing front, we promise fireworks,” he said, adding that the card had been completed and boxers from Zimbabwe and Tanzania had arrived, while the Zambian boxers were still on their way.
He added that Namibia’s boxers had been hard at work and are ready for their fights.
The boxing tournament will be headlined by Paulus ‘The Rock’ Ambunda, who will be fighting in his first boxing tournament under Salute stable after leaving the MTC Sunshine Boxing and Fitness Academy last month. He will face Tanzania’s Tasha Mjuaji in a featherweight bout.
Ambunda has fought 26 times, winning 24 and losing twice while Mjuaji holds a record of 23 fights, 15 wins, six loses and two draws.
Ambunda on his part said he was itching to get back in the ring following his 10-month layoff.
“Namibia has been waiting for ‘The Rock’ to shine on the night. All I can say is come and support us as we display our skills,” he said, adding that he is well prepared and not plagued by injury or stress.
Also fighting on the night will be Willbeforce ‘Black Mamba’ Shihepo, who will face Anos Temfuma from Zambia in a light heavyweight fight.
Shihepo has fought 32 times over his professional career, winning 23 of the fights and losing nine. His opponent holds a record of 10 fights, with eight wins, one defeat and one draw.
The festival will be held from Saturday to Sunday at the Mokati Stadium and Paresis Sport Complex and will feature football, boxing, drifting, spinning and live music.
