RUNDU, 25 SEP (NAMPA) – A 21-year-old woman is presumed to have drowned at the Sauyemwa ‘Bikini Beach’ on Saturday.
Detective Chief Inspector of the Namibian Police at Rundu, Ewald Kavara told Nampa on Monday that Elizabeth Pandu Ndara was swimming in the Okavango River with others before her disappearance.
Her body has not yet been found but her next of kin have been informed.
Police investigations into the matter continue.
It is suspected that Ndara was swimming while under the influence of alcohol.
Kavara cautioned members of the public to stay away from the river when under the influence of alcohol.
“Even though it is summer time and the river level has gone down there are still parts that are very deep and the public should also refrain from swimming there and rather have fun at shallow parts,” he said.
