WINDHOEK, 24 SEP (NAMPA) – The Namibian Police are searching for a trial-awaiting prisoner who escaped from custody while headed to court at Walvis Bay on Friday.
The weekend crime report issued on Sunday said Andreas Victor Kaushi escaped from the magistrate’s court while being escorted from the holding cells at around 16h55.
The 32-year-old Kaushi, from Oshikolongondjo village in the Oshana Region, was in custody for two counts of armed robbery and possession of a firearm without a licence.
The police are requesting anyone with information on the escapee to contact the Walvis Bay Police Station.
An unknown number of burglars are also on the run after they robbed a 57-year-old French tourist at a guesthouse in Windhoek’s Avis residential area.
They are said to have cut open the fence of the guesthouse in Schuckmann Street before attacking the security guard and taking his gun.
They robbed the tourist of N.dollars 7 000 in cash, a camera, a Visa card, cellphones, watches, a laptop and memory cards.
The total value of the stolen items has not been determined yet and no arrests or recovery have been made yet.
The police also reported that two men were arrested at Okomitundu Guest Farm between 21 and 22 September after they illegally hunted a warthog.
The carcass was recovered and the suspects aged 26 and 27 are expected to appear in the Karibib Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
