Four die in accident outside Keetmanshoop

KEETMANSHOOP, 22 SEP (NAMPA) - Four people died in a motor vehicle accident following a tyre burst on the B1 road outside Keetmanshoop on Thursday.
Thirteen others who were travelling with the victims in a Quantum minibus were admitted to the Keetmanshoop State Hospital in critical condition, Namibian Police Force //Kharas Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Chrispin Mubebo said Friday.
He informed Nampa the deceased were identified as Katrina Jossop, 75, Sorya Hangue, 38, Ewaldine Kahimunu, 47, and Ferdinand Feris, 48.
“The driver [one of the deceased] lost control of the vehicle after the left rear tyre burst and it overturned,” Mubebo said.
The accident happened between 15h00 and 16h00 around 8 kilometres north of Keetmanshoop. The next of kin of all the deceased are informed.
The regional police spokesman advised motorists to check their vehicles before taking off on their journeys, to not overload and avoid speeding.
“Temperatures are rising and tyre busts are common,” Mubebo warned.
A case of culpable homicide into the matter has been opened and investigations continue.
