ONGWEDIVA, 22 SEP (NAMPA) - The Oshikoto Namibian Police Force (NamPol) at Okatope on Thursday arrested a 40-year-old man from Okalumpa village for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl on Wednesday.
Coordinator of the NamPol crime investigation unit in the region, Deputy Commissioner Naomi Katjiua disclosed this in a regional crime report issued on Thursday.
Katjiua said the incident took place at around 08h00 at the Onashikokaya village in the Onyaanya area of the Oshikoto Region.
The victim is a Grade 5 learner at one of the schools in the Onyaanya area.
“It is alleged that on 19 September (Tuesday) at about 10h00 the suspect found the victim at the pension pay point at the Okatope village and forcefully put his [mobile] phone in the victim’s pocket and left,” said the deputy commissioner.
According to her, the victim went home with the phone before the suspect went to the victim’s house on Wednesday, demanding his phone and later claiming that it was not functioning.
This, Katjiua said, happened in the presence of a disabled grandmother of the victim.
The report states that the suspect pulled the victim by force to nearby bushes, where he allegedly had forced sexual intercourse with her twice.
The incident was only reported to the police on Thursday.
The suspect is a neighbour to the victim, and his identity is withheld until he appears before the court.
