NamPol Commissioner Ekandjo's body arrives in Ondangwa

ONDANGWA, 21 SEP (NAMPA) – The body of the late Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Commissioner Joseph Nandjato Ekandjo arrived at the Ondangwa Airport from Windhoek on Thursday.
Oshana Governor Clemens Kashuupulwa, senior officials in NamPol, family members and friends were at the Ondangwa Airport as early as 07h00 to receive his body.
He died in the Mediclinic Private Hospital in Windhoek on 16 September, after he was diagnosed with cancer in July this year.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday and Friday.
The memorial services, as well as the funeral service, are to be held at his homestead at Ekolanaambo village in the Oshana Region’s Ongwediva Constituency.
Ekandjo will be laid to rest on Saturday at the Panguleni Cemetery, also at Ekolanaambo village.
He was 62 at the time of his death.
He joined Swapo’s then military wing, the People’s Liberation Army of Namibia, in 1977 and served as a combatant until 1989.
Ekandjo joined NamPol in 1990, shortly after returning from exile, and served in the force until 2015 when he was honourably discharged at the age of 60.
He is survived by his wife, Cornelia; 24 children; 12 grandchildren; his mother and eight siblings.
