CORRECTION: Secretary of Swapo-Party Elders Council dies

WINDHOEK, 01 NOV (NAMPA) – The Secretary of the Swapo-Party Elders Council, Frederick Matongo, passed away in Windhoek on Friday.
Matongo, 67, died at the Rhino Park Private Hospital at around 10h00 after a long illness.
The Elders Council’s Deputy Secretary, Mukwaita Shanyengana confirmed his death to Nampa on Friday.
Before his death, the late Matongo served as Special Advisor to Minister of Veterans’ Affairs Nickey Iyambo.
Shanyengana said the party received the news of his death with shock and sadness.
Matongo joined the Swapo-Party in 1964. The Deputy Secretary described him as a good father, a leader, and advisor.
President Hifikepunye Pohamba and several Cabinet Ministers, amongst other Government officials, were present at the late Matongo’s residence in the Golgota residential area in Katutura today to extend their condolences to the family.
Matongo was born in Kabbe village in the Zambezi Region on 10 October 1946.
He leaves behind his wife, Helena, and five children.
Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
