WINDHOEK, 19 SEP (NAMPA) – A two-year-old boy drowned in a 50 litre water container at Dinam Farm in the Twyfelfontein area of the Kunene Region on Thursday.
Crime investigations coordinator of the Namibian Police Force (Nampol) in Kunene, Deputy Commissioner Rudolf Kanyetu confirmed the incident to Nampa on Monday, saying the boy was in the care of his 56-year-old grandmother, who at the time of the incident was busy with her work behind the house.
An empty lunch box was found at the scene of the incident, which leaves the impression that the boy wanted to use it to fetch water from the container, Kanyetu said.
It also seems the boy used an empty five litre container to step onto in order to reach water inside the 50 litre container.
The deceased has been identified as Wonder Hoebeb.
In a separate incident, the decomposed body of a 67-year-old man was found on Monday morning in the area of Khorixas after he was reported missing last week Sunday from Farm Jeremia in the Khorixas area.
After the matter was reported to the police, efforts were taken by both the family and the police to find the missing pensioner, who family members said was diagnosed mentally ill.
He has been identified as Phillipus Hangara.
A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
