ONGWEDIVA, 12 SEP (NAMPA) Fifteen projects in all the 11 constituencies of the Oshana Region on Tuesday received N.dollars 408 000 worth of hammer mills bought through the regional governors Equipment Aid Scheme.
Governor Clemens Kashuupulwa handed over the 15 machines to project representatives at a ceremony in Ongwediva.
The machines were manufactured by the Hochland Tractor Centre based in Ongwediva.
Kashuupulwa said the equipment is aimed at helping struggling communities have a source of income.
This fund was exclusively put aside to sponsor 15 [projects] from the region with equipment in order to enhance business development in rural areas and create income opportunities for the unemployed people, Kashuupulwa explained.
The petrol operated machines will be used to generate income, while benefitting the entire community with the services provided.
In an interview with Nampa, Selma Iikela from the Uuthilindindi Village in the Oshakati West Constituency expressed endless gratitude towards the gesture, noting that the hammer mill will definitely contribute significantly to their already existing bakery.
This is also the first machine of this sort at the village, which means community members no longer have to travel long distances to town to have their mahangu crushed, Iikela said.
Okamukwa resident in the Okaku Constituency, Phillipus Aakwaake, told this agency that the community was unfortunate to have lost the garden project they had due to water shortages, however they were hopeful about the new equipment.
We did not expect to get a new machine after the first one broke, so we are very happy to be part of the beneficiaries here today and we will ensure that we use this hammer mill to the utmost best, he said.
