WINDHOEK, 31 OCT (NAMPA) - The proceedings of the National Assembly (NA) were cancelled on Thursday due to a lack of quorum.
The NA was adjourned until next Tuesday after the Parliamentarians who had shown up waited for about an hour in the hope of forming a quorum.
According to the Namibian Constitution, a quorum of 37 voting members is needed to constitute a meeting of the National Assembly.
At Thursday’s proceedings, only 35 voting members and three non-voting members were present.
Members of Parliament (MPs) will, however, meet on Friday for a further round of consultations on the Public Procurement Bill, which was withdrawn from Parliament two weeks ago.
This Bill is designed to provide the legal framework for in-depth reforms to the public procurement system, which is essential to implement Government’s programmes in a manner which would achieve value for money with a high level of efficiency and effectiveness.
