WINDHOEK, 07 SEP (NAMPA) – The Otjombinde District in the Omaheke Region has been disqualified by the Swapo leadership from participating in that region’s elective conference as well as the party’s oncoming 6th Congress in November.
The date for the regional elective conference is yet to be decided.
Swapo Secretary-General, Nangolo Mbumba said during a media briefing on Thursday the decision comes after some party members at Otjombinde threatened to harm senior party leaders who were assigned to supervise the district conference there.
“The politburo condemned the unruly attitudes of some party members at Otjombinde District,” said Mbumba.
A high-level ranking Swapo party leaders visited the district shortly after disputed initial district conferences held there, Otjinene and Aminuis between June and July to verify the outcome of such results, and found that the elections for portfolios were not properly conducted.
Mbumba added that the politburo has noted with concern the delays and lack of cooperation which has damaged the party’s structure in the Omaheke Region.
The SG noted that the politburo directed the verification team, together with the leaders assigned to Omaheke, to continue to supervise the re-run of the district conference of Aminuis and Okorukambe districts.
Meanwhile, he said the politburo has received the report of the renewal of mandates from Kavango West Region and has endorsed the regional conference held there on 11 August 2017.
