RUNDU, 07 SEP (NAMPA) - Kavango Easts under-17 regional football team coach, Stephanus Munango has said his team is going to compete for top honours at the Skorpion Zinc U-17 Cup this weekend.
The tournament will take place in Windhoek from Friday to Sunday, and will see 14 regional U-17 football teams vie for top honours.
Speaking to Nampa on Thursday before the teams departure to Windhoek, Munango said their training went well.
We are going to play our game as planned and we are not going to imitate our opponents style of play, he said.
Munango said although they have been drawn in one of the toughest groups in the competition, they want to lift the cup.
Asked about players to look out for in his team, the coach was quick to point out John Muronga, the goal keeper, and his attacking midfielder, Khomtatite Hoeseb, saying the two players impressed during the training camp.
He hopes they will carry the team through the group stages.
Kavango East is in Group B with Ohangwena, Khomas, Oshikoto and Erongo.
Group C consists of Kavango West, Zambezi, Oshana and Hardap, while Omusati, Otjozondjupa, Omaheke, Kunene and //Kharas make up Group A.
Group winners will automatically qualify for the semi-finals, while runners-up in Group A and B, which have five teams each, will face each other to determine the fourth semi-finalist.
The final 20 players of the Kavango East are Marthin Kashikora, Romeo Hausiku, Luish Mbundu, Malakia Nangolo, Romanus Canjimbi, Lasarus Shaningwa, Mareshall Andreas, Jerobean Shinene, Khomtatite Hoeseb, Paskalius Mbambo, Erastus Ndjamba, Petrus Nyumbu, Petrus Sindimba, Elias Rumeta, Stephanus Nekaro, Jacob Abraham, Nikolaus Simon, Pinias Kakoma, John Muronga and Pius Haiyambo.
