OTJIWARONGO, 07 SEP (NAMPA) - Two suspects were arrested here on Wednesday for illegal possession of game meat.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha told Nampa on Thursday they were apprehended at different houses in the Orwetoveni residential area after they failed to explain the origin of the fresh meat suspected to be from an oryx.
“One suspect is a 50-year-old woman and the other a 30-year-old man,” she said.
Mbeha said a member of the general public tipped the police off about the suspected game meat.
She said the Otjozondjupa police’s operations and stock theft units teamed up to successfully recover the full carcass with a street value of N.dollars 9 000.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Police investigations continue.
Mbeha warned cattle rustlers and poachers to stop their illegal activities, saying the police have informers all over the region.
