Oshakati to host Metropolitan Summer Cup

OSHAKATI, 07 SEP (NAMPA) – Regional football and netball champions from the Oshana, Ohangwena, Omusati, Oshikoto, Kavango East, Erongo, Hardap and //Kharas regions will contest the 2017 Metropolitan Summer Cup at Oshakati from 15 to 16 September.
“The company has sponsored the tournament since 2007 and it is for primary, junior secondary and combined schools,” Toini Kasheeta, sports officer for the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service in the Oshana Region, told Nampa on enquiry here Wednesday. The sponsorship toward this year’s tournament amounts to N.dollars 450 000.
The Oshekasheka Combined School (CS) in the Oshana Region and Okanghudi CS from the Ohangwena Region are the defending champions in the netball and football categories, respectively.
Football teams that qualified for the inter-regional contest are Kapembe CS (Oshana), Onamulunga CS (Oshikoto), Dibasen Junior Secondary School (Erongo), Ombuumbuu Junior Secondary School (Omusati), Okanghudi CS (Ohangwena), Nyangana CS (Kavango East) and Empleheim CS (Hardap).
Oshekasheka CS has again managed to represent the Oshana Region in the netball category and it is to be challenged by Okankolo CS (Oshikoto), Otjiperongo JSS (Erongo), Oshaaluwata CS (Omusati), Onanghulo CS (Ohangwena), Ndiyona CS (Kavango East) and Daniel Joubert CS (Hardap).
Kasheeta indicated that the football and netball winners from the //Kharas Region are yet to be confirmed.
The first prize is a floating trophy, gold medals and N.dollars 15 000, the second prize is silver medals and N.dollars 9 000, the third prize is N.dollars 6 000 and bronze medals, and the fourth prize is N.dollars 4 000.
These prizes apply to both football and netball competitions. Each school in the finals will receive football and netball outfits.
Regional winners for both football and netball received N.dollars 1 500, while N.dollars 1 000 and N.dollars 500 went to second and third-placed teams, respectively.
