OSHAKATI, 06 SEP (NAMPA) Regional football and netball champions from the Oshana, Ohangwena, Omusati, Oshikoto, Kavango East, Erongo, Hardap and //Karas regions will contest for the 2017 Metropolitan Summer Cup at Oshakati on 15-16 September.
The Sport Officer for the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Services in the Oshana Region, Toini Kasheeta in an interview with Nampa???? at Oshakati on Wednesday said Metropolitan Namibia sponsored the tournament to the tune of N.dollars 450 000.
The company sponsors the tournament since 2007 and it is for the primary, junior secondary and combined schools, Kasheeta noted.
Oshekasheka Combined School (CS) in the Oshana Region and Okanghudi CS from the Ohangwena Region are the defending champions in the netball and football category, respectively.
Football teams that qualified for the inter-regional contest are Kapembe CS (Oshana), Onamulunga CS (Oshikoto), Dibasen Junior Secondary School (Erongo), Ombuumbuu Junior Secondary School (Omusati), Okanghudi CS (Ohangwena), Nyangana CS (Kavango East) and Empleheim CS (Hardap).
Kasheeta indicated that the regional football and netball winning schools from the //Karas Region are yet to be confirmed.
Oshekasheka CS has again managed to represent the Oshana Region in the netball category and it is to be challenged by Okankolo CS (Oshikoto), Otjiperongo JSS (Erongo), Oshaaluwata CS (Omusati), Onanghulo CS (Ohangwena), Ndiyona CS (Kavango East) and Daniel Joubert CS (Hardap).
The first prize at the inter-regional finals is a floating trophy, gold medals and N.dollars 15 000, the second prize worth silver medals and N.dollars 9 000, the third prize is N.dollars 6 000 and bronze medals and N.dollars 4 000 is the fourth prize.
These prizes apply to both football and netball competitions. A complete football gear or netball outfit is also to be given to each of the schools that reached the inter-regional finals stage.
The regional winners (football and netball) are each awarded N.dollars 1 500 before the inter-regional finals, while N.dollars 1 000 and N.dollars 500 are the second and third prizes for the regional level.
