Omusati NamPol win Dr Ben Soccer and Netball Tournament

ONHELEIWA, 03 SEP (NAMPA) – The Omusati Namibian Police Force (NamPol) won the 2017 Dr Ben Soccer and Netball Tournament which concluded at the Onheleiwa sports ground in the Omusati Region on Saturday.
Omusati NamPol won the football competition and finished third in netball to scoop total prize money of N.dollars 6 500, a trophy and 15 gold medals. The football team edged out Kambabala and G Respect that finished second and third, respectively.
Kambabala received N.dollars 3 000 and 15 silver medals, and G Respect N.dollars 1 500 only.
Young Stars, who won the netball tournament, received N.dollars 2 000, a trophy and 10 gold medals while Blue Bird, the runners-up in this category, received N.dollars 1 000 and 10 silver medals. Omusati NamPol received N.dollars 500 for third place.
The tournament which started on 29 August was sponsored by Health and Social Services Minister, Dr Bernard Haufiku to the tune N.dollars 15 000.
The seventh annual competition attracted dignitaries such as Namibia Football Association President Frans Mbidi, Brave Warriors Coach Ricardo Mannetti, business tycoon Ben Zaaruka, local musician Martin ‘The Dogg’ Morocky as well as Haufiku, who hails from the host constituency.
Morocky graced the tournament as the health ministry’s ‘Smart Cut’ (voluntary medical male circumcision) ambassador.
“We use sports as promotion of the health and wellbeing of our people,” remarked Haufiku at a dinner function held at his homestead shortly after the end of the tournament.
Onheleiwa is situated some 40 kilometres north of Oshakati towards the Namibia-Angola border.
