RUNDU, 30 AUG (NAMPA) – A 41-year-old businessman, Charlton Rodney Useb, appeared in the Rundu Magistrate's Court on Wednesday on a charge of fraud.
The charge stems from Useb's alleged failure to provide the Rundu Town Council (RTC) with skip containers as per an agreement reached between them.
Useb, who hails from Grootfontein, surrendered himself to the police as early as 8h00 here on Wednesday.
He appeared before Magistrate Barry Mufana and was granted bail of N.dollars 10 000.
Useb was awarded a tender to supply and deliver 20 skip containers and one trailer through a tender invitation dated 04 November 2014, an agreement which he allegedly failed to honour.
The tender was awarded to CU Sales & Marketing cc, which is Useb owns.
The Local Tender Board recommended that approval be granted to exempt the expenditure of N.dollars 288 604 from normal tender procedures as stipulated under the local tender board regulation 20(c), documents in Nampa's possession have shown.
The documents further indicate that RTC paid in advance to the company CU Sales & Marketing cc, the amount of N$ 288 604 by cheque no: 25384 on 08/12/2014.
Useb's case was postponed to 12 October for further investigations and legal representation.
