ONGWEDIVA, 30 AUG (NAMPA) – Two minors died when their hut caught fire at Onakankunzi East village in the Oshikoto Region Tuesday morning.
The two-year-old Martha Itana and 19-month-old Gideon Itana, who were brother and sister, were burnt beyond recognition.
In a crime report issued late on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner Naomi Katjiua of the Namibian Police Force said the toddlers were left in the care of an 18-year-old relative while their grandmother went to the cucashops.
“The cause of the fire is unknown,” Katjiua stated, adding that their next of kin have been informed.
The deputy commissioner also reported that the 23-year-old Jackson Muzanima allegedly committed suicide at Okapuku village, also in the Oshikoto Region, on Tuesday.
Muzanima allegedly hanged himself in a tree with a wire at his homestead. His body was found by a domestic worker at around 06h50.
Katjiua said he left a suicide note behind, but could not reveal its content.
The deceased’s next of kin have been informed and police investigations into the matter continue.
