Welwitschias narrowly lose to Griffons

WINDHOEK, 27 AUG (NAMPA) – Namibia’s senior national rugby team, the Welwitschias narrowly lost 66-59 to the Griffons in a high scoring Currie Cup First Division match played in South Africa’s Free State on Saturday.
The halftime score was 26-19.
A total of 19 tries were scored in the match played at the HT Pelatona Proje Stadium and monitored online via supersport.com. The home side outscored the Namibians by 10 tries to nine.
Down Touch Griffons centre Arthur-William Williams scored a hat-trick of tries, while both Selvyn Davids and Vuyo Mbotho scored a brace each.
Barend Potgieter, Kwezi Mkhafu and Andrew du Plessis scored the other tries for the Down Touch Griffons.
Welwitschias scored their tries through Darryl de la Harpe (three), Johan Tromp, Jan Booysen, Shaun du Preez, Macho Prinsloo, Lesley Klim and Maharua Katjijeko.
Last year this fixture saw Welwitschias lose by 0-101 at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek, while the return leg ended 84-25 in favour of the Griffons.
The Welwitschias’ next game is against Eastern Province at the Hage Geingob Stadium next Saturday.
