REHOBOTH, 26 AUG (NAMPA) - Young Brazilians (YB) Football Club from Karasburg will host the first-ever Annual YB Football Cup in Keetmanshoop next weekend.
The Southern Stream First Division (SSFD) outfit’s manager, Hendrick Tolla Julius told Nampa on Saturday they are hosting the tournament in Keetmanshoop to accommodate as many teams as possible.
“Keetmanshoop is more central in our region and most teams prefer to play there to avoid costs associated with travelling, so hosting tournaments there boosts the chances of having as many teams as possible participate,” Julius said.
He further said the tournament also aims to give YB much-needed game time in anticipation of the SSFD kick-off in the near future.
“We have been inactive since last season and only played tournaments so far. I believe with the tournament we will get enough games as preparation for the league kick-off although I don’t know when it will start,” he said.
The tournament, which will be hosted at the J Stephanus Soccer Field in Tseiblaagte on Saturday and Sunday, is open to all teams irrespective of league affiliation.
YB ended second in the SSFD 2015/2016 season won by Young African from Gobabis.
The winner will walk away with N.dollars 25 000 and a floating trophy and the runner-up with N.dollars 15 000.
The semi-final losers will each get N.dollars 5 000.
The draw for the tournament will be held in Keetmanshoop on Thursday.
