OTJIWARONGO, 24 AUG (NAMPA) - A Grade 9 school girl at Karundu Junior Secondary School here was on Wednesday night brutally murdered, allegedly by a boy believed to be her boyfriend.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha told Nampa on Thursday that the deceased was identified as Natasha Somses.
“Her close relatives have been informed of her death,” Mbeha said.
She told this news agency that police preliminary investigations indicate that Somses was allegedly stoned and stabbed several times on her body by her 15-year-old boyfriend who used an unknown sharp object.
The incident occurred at about 22h47 behind the Karundu Junior Secondary School.
Mbeha said the motive behind the brutal attack on Somses is still unknown to police.
The suspect was arrested shortly after the attack on the girl and is expected to appear in the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court during this week.
Police investigations in the matter continue.
Mbeha called on parents to take charge and entirely prohibit minor children to stay out in the streets at night.
She said since the closure of schools last week, minor boys and girls have been loitering the streets, without any parental supervision.
