KATIMA MULILO, 24 AUG (NAMPA) - Paula Kooper has been appointed new Member of Parliament (MP) to replace former Deputy Minister of Land Reform, Barnadus Swartbooi in the National Assembly.
President Hage Geingob made the announcement on Thursday in Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region shortly after he officially opened the 6th congress of the Swapo-Party Youth League (SPYL) here.
A total of 568 youth league members from sections, branches and regional districts are attending the congress.
The 40-year-old Kooper is also in attendance as a delegate and outgoing youth league’s Khomas Region Secretary for Finance.
She accepted the appointment with joy, dancing to the songs of the Ndilimani Cultural Troupe.
Kooper promised to work hard and serve the interests of all Namibians.
Swapo-party Secretary-General, Nangolo Mbumba in July this year recalled Swartbooi, on a Swapo ticket, from Parliament after he told guests at a fund-raising gala dinner in Keetmashoop in the //Kharas Region that he was 99 per cent not Swapo.
He promised to resign immediately from the party once action was taken against him.
