WINDHOEK, 16 AUG (NAMPA) – The Kavango West under-17 football team is gearing up for the Skorpion Zinc Cup slated for the weekend of 09 September this year in Windhoek.
The competition will see teams from all 14 regions vie for top honours.
The fourth edition of the completion was re-launched at Soccer House in Windhoek last month after it took a year’s break.
In an interview with Nampa on Wednesday, Coach of Kavango West, Sikongo Kapumburu said the team will start a training camp on Friday until 25 August at a school hostel in Nkurenkuru.
“We are coming to Windhoek to compete and we will do our best to do justice to ourselves as far as the competition is concerned,” said Kapumburu.
The final 20 players will be selected during the training camp.
Asked about the group in which the region was drawn, the coach said the group is okay, “it was just a matter of working hard as a team to play well at the competition”.
Kavango West is in Group C with the Zambezi, Oshana and Hardap regions.
Group A consists of Omusati, Otjozondjupa, Omaheke, Kunene and //Kharas, while Group B comprises Ohangwena, Khomas, Oshikoto, Erongo and Kavango East.
Group winners will automatically qualify for the semi-finals, while the runners-up in Group A and B, which have five teams each, will face each other to determine the fourth semi-finalist.
