Man dies after plank attack in Oshana Region

WINDHOEK, 09 AUG (NAMPA) – A 37-year-old man died on Tuesday after being assaulted with a plank on Monday at Onyaanya village in the Oshana Region.
In a crime report issued Wednesday, Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Head of Media Relations, Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi said Ano David was attacked Monday at around 20h20 at a cuca shop.
David’s girlfriend, who works at the cuca shop, wanted to close for the night but the 31-year-old suspect in the matter tried to prevent her from doing so.
The couple managed to lock themselves inside the shop and the suspect, who was armed with a machete, broke down the door and attacked them with the machete.
“The deceased managed to run away but the suspect chased after him and assaulted him with a plank,” said Shikwambi.
David succumbed to his injuries at the Onandjokwe State Hospital. His next of kin have been informed and the suspect has been arrested.
Meanwhile in the Ohangwena Region, an 11-year-old girl was raped at Eenhana on Tuesday.
The girl was playing with other children when the suspect started chasing them. He caught the girl and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.
The suspect, whose age is unknown, was arrested and police investigations continue.
Meanwhile, in the Khomas Region an abandoned vehicle caught fire in Windhoek’s Shanghai Street at around 11h00 on Wednesday.
The crime report said an unemployed man was living in the vehicle.
It is not known what caused the fire.
No injuries were reported.
