WINDHOEK, 01 AUG (NAMPA) – Netball Namibia (NN) has called on sports lovers to pack the Khomasdal sports stadium netball courts on Friday and Saturday for the national championship.
NN Public Relations Officer, Rebekka Goagoses said the competition will be exciting.
“Regional teams are going to showcase their best players,” she said.
Out of 14 regions in Namibia, only 11 have so far confirmed their participation in the championship.
Those regions have been divided into two pools: Pool X which consists of Kunene, Kavango East, Otjozondjupa, Kavango West, Omaheke and //Kharas, and Pool Y which comprises Khomas, Erongo, Oshana, Ohangwena and Zambezi.
There will also be umpire, coach and bench official training during the competition.
Entrance to the games will be free of charge.
Otjozondjupa and Omaheke will commence action on Friday at 18h00, followed by Khomas against Erongo at 18h45.
The winning region will walk away with N.dollars 30 000, runners-up N.dollars 15 000 and the third place finisher will take home N.dollars 9 000.
The event is organised with funds availed by Debmarine Namibia recently.
The three-year sponsorship worth N.dollars 1.8 million will also be used for the Netball Pent Series featuring Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia, Botswana and Swaziland here in September; regional league grants of N.dollars 10 000 annually; and development of the NN website.
