OSHAKATI, 01 AUG (NAMPA) – A 23-year-old woman died Monday night after being assaulted allegedly by her boyfriend at Ondjokwe village in the Oshikoto Region.
The daily crime report issued by the region’s Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Naomi Katjiua on Tuesday said Rauha Kamati had allegedly refused to let her boyfriend use her mobile phone.
The 22-year-old suspect is said to have showed up at Kamati’s residence at around 21h30 from nearby cuca shops and he then demanded to use her phone.
“A quarrel erupted, after which he then took a pounding stick and hit Kamati twice on her head,” Katjiua said.
Kamati ran out of the house but the suspect pursued and caught up with her and assaulted her until she was unconscious, before fleeing the scene.
She died upon arrival at the Okatope clinic.
The suspect has been arrested.
The two were reportedly in a relationship for five years and have a daughter aged one-and-a-half years.
The police report also said the two had a history of domestic violence which was never reported.
In an unrelated matter at Tsumeb, a case of murder and concealment of birth is being investigated after the body of a baby was discovered at the municipality dumpsite on Monday.
It is not clear when the baby was disposed of at the dumpsite, but the body – which was frozen and wrapped up in plastic bags - was discovered at around 12h00.
The police could not determine the baby’s gender.
No suspects have been arrested yet.
