OTAVI, 01 AUG (NAMPA) - Sixteen people survived an accident Monday night when their minibus overturned on the B1 road near Otavi.
The accident occurred some 35 kilometres south of Otavi at around 20h00 after a tyre burst.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force in the region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha on Tuesday told Nampa the minibus was driving from Walvis Bay in the Erongo Region to Ondangwa in the Oshana Region.
It had 16 occupants, including a minor child.
“Three adults sustained serious injuries and were taken to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital,” Mbeha said.
The driver and a number of other people sustained light injuries.
The 29-year-old driver is said to have lost control over the bus and its trailer after the left rear tyre burst, causing the vehicle to roll twice.
Mbeha urged minibus operators to check their tyres before driving long distances and to adhere to road traffic rules and regulations on public roads to help save lives.
