RUNDU, 27 JUL (NAMPA) – A one-year-old girl was killed instantly after a car started by a 10-year-old boy pressed her against a wall in the Kehemu residential area in Rundu on Wednesday.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Head of Public Relations, Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi confirmed the incident to Nampa on Thursday, saying the owner of the vehicle left the car keys in the ignition switch.
It is alleged that his son then got into the car and started it. The car was in gear and subsequently jerked forward, pressing his cousin against the wall, killing her in the process.
The incident happened at around 15h10.
Contacted for comment, Crime Coordinator in the Kavango East Region, Deputy Commissioner Bob Kanyetu warned the public not to leave their cars unattended, especially when there are young children in the surroundings.
He said some children copy what they see adults doing.
Police investigations in the matter continue.
