KEETMANSHOOP, 25 JUL (NAMPA) – A Keetmanshoop mother was Monday morning left distraught after witnessing the death of her son.
The 8-year-old boy was hit by a car while crossing a road on his way to Krönlein Primary School.
Namibian Police Force //Kharas Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Chrispin Mubebo said the incident happened at around 06h50 on a road next to St Matthias Primary School, which is close to the school of the Grade 2 learner.
“A car crossed over the speed hump outside the school and hit the learner as he was crossing the road,” Mubebo said.
The speed hump in this instance simultaneously serves as a pedestrian crossing, particularly for the learners of the schools nearby.
Describing the incident as horrific, Mubebo said the boy died on the spot due to the impact.
He warned drivers to be extra cautious when driving near schools.
The mother of the victim was inconsolable, a witness to the incident told Nampa.
“She cried her heart out. It was a very sad moment,” he said.
A case of culpable homicide was opened against the driver of the vehicle.
