Foot and Mouth disease in Kabbe

WINDHOEK, 19 JUL (NAMPA) – The Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Rural Development has announced an outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease in the Kabbe South Constituency of the Zambezi Region.
The announcement was made by Chief Veterinary Officer, Dr Milton Maseke in a media release.
The outbreak, according to Maseke, affects two kraals and about 1 000 cattle on the Musele Island.
The island and surrounding areas within 10 kilometre radius in the constituency have as a result been declared as an infected place in terms of Section 17 (1) of the Animal Health Act 1 of 2011.
Maseke promised that control measures which include the compulsory re-vaccination of cattle as well as the restriction of movement will be implemented soon.
In order to deal with the outbreak in the shortest possible time, the public is requested to render maximum cooperation to veterinary officials.
Maseke gave assurance that this outbreak is limited to the mentioned area, which according to him has no effect on trade in livestock and livestock products into and out of Namibia.
