REHOBOTH, 16 JUL (NAMPA) - Panado 7 won the Dinolo Super Netball Tournament for Kavango West on Saturday when they defeated Western United at Nkurenkuru.
The tournament was launched in Windhoek last month and is sponsored by African Deli, a local food manufacturer founded in January 2013.
Speaking to Nampa on Sunday, African Deli spokesperson Anne-Marie Molatudi said the Dinolo Super Netball Tournament forms part of their corporate social investment programme.
“Through this initiative, we are bringing women together to have fun and at the same time, we give the players and their supporters the opportunity to interact with us,” she said.
The tournaments will be held in all 14 regions and the winner of each region will take part in the finals in Swakopmund on 30 September this year.
Molatudi further said African Deli has committed itself to the development of local netball through the tournament.
They plan to host the tournament annually and help produce good players for the national team.
“We can’t expect the government to fund sports alone, we need to do it ourselves. I am calling on national scouts to attend the tournaments and scout for talent as we have extremely good players,” Molatudi said.
Panado 7 won N.dollars 2 000 and Western United N.dollars 1 500. The third prize went to Conquerors, who pocketed N.dollars 1 000.
“We congratulate Panado 7 on winning this tournament, come and support them at the finals in Swakopmund. We also want to extend our sincere gratitude to the fans and supporters,” Molatudi said.
