RUNDU, 29 OCT (NAMPA) - The Swapo-Party Youth League (SPYL)’s national executive committee has turned down a decision by the SPYL leadership in the two Kavango regions to suspend their SPYL Secretary for the regions, Maurus Nekaro Junior.
Nekaro Junior was suspended by the SPYL Kavango regional executive committee on 20 October this year following an SPYL Kavango regional executive committee meeting held on 19 October.
He stands accused of incompetence and failure to comply with the directives and decisions of the SPYL Kavango regional executive committee.
Although efforts to obtain comments from SPYL Secretary Dr Elijah Ngurare proved futile as he is reportedly out of the country, this reporter has established that the SPYL national executive committee turned down Nekaro Junior’s suspension as no proper procedures were apparently followed by the Kavango regional executive committee in the matter.
Nekaro has since resumed his full-time duties as SPYL secretary for the two Kavango regions.
SPYL Secretary for Information, Publicity and Mobilisation for Kavango East and Kavango West, Petrus Kashumah earlier told Nampa that the party’s youth leaders in the two regions have been complaining for too long about Nekaro’s incompetence as he had on several occasions failed to advance the ideas and interests of the youth league to the party’s regional executive committee.
Nekaro is furthermore accused of withholding information, as he had apparently failed on numerous occasions to give feedback to the youth league about meetings he had held with the Swapo-Party regional executive committee.
The youth leader was also accused of poor communication skills, as he is “often in the dark” about activities of the party, and that of the youth wing.
The former SPYL regional secretary apparently failed to attend crucial SPYL meetings on several occasions, and only concentrated on his private businesses.
In addition, he is accused of failing to register new members in the region’s membership book, which is still empty, despite it being issued to him during September last year.
The SPYL mobiliser noted that the 22-member SPYL regional executive committee thus decided to suspend their secretary after receiving concrete evidence that Nekaro had violated the SPYL constitution by not carrying out his duties.
