OTJIWARONGO, 26 MAY (NAMPA) ? A 35-year-old man was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Otjiwarongo State Hospital on Saturday after he allegedly sniffed a white drug substance suspected to be cocaine in the DRC Informal Settlement.
The deceased has been identified as Theofelus Haufiku, a resident of Otjiwarongo in the Otjozondjupa Region.
His close relatives have been already informed of his death.
According to Otjozondjupa Regional Crime Investigations Co-ordinator, Deputy Commissioner Moses Khairabeb, the deceased (Haufiku) and five other men were seen drinking liquor at the Hollywood Bar in the DRC Informal Settlement on Friday evening.
From around 23h00 on Friday, it is alleged that Haufiku and his five friends of Congolese origin apparently stopped drinking the liquor and switched to sniffing a certain white drug substance which is suspected to be cocaine.
?Shortly past 00h00 on Saturday, Haufiku was found lying in bed at the same bar. He was bleeding from the nose, was in a weakened state and he was vomiting some white foam from his mouth,? said the crime investigation officer.
Khairabeb said Haufiku was then rushed to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital where he was pronounced dead by medical officers there upon arrival.
The other five men were also found lying next to him, and their bodies also appeared weak.
?They were taken to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital where they are recovering now,? Khairabeb said.
The police investigation in the matter continues under inquest number 05/2013.
Khairabeb warned drug dealers in the region to refrain from their activities before they are arrested.
