WINDHOEK, 03 JUL (NAMPA) – Julius Indongo’s upcoming fight against Terence Crawford is the best for his career and Namibia, his promoter said on Monday.
“The whole world wants to see boxers at the top of their career and still undisputed fight each other,” said Nestor Tobias at a media conference in the capital.
Indongo and Crawford from the United States of America (USA) will fight on 19 August 2017 in Nebraska, Omaha, USA.
The winner will unify five titles: World Boxing Organisation (WBO); World Boxing Council (WBC); World Boxing Association (WBA); International Boxing Federation (IBF); and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) Junior Welterweight.
Indongo holds the WBA, IBF and IBO titles, which he unified after beating Ricky Burns in Glasgow, Scotland in April, while Crawford holds the WBO and WBC titles.
Tobias said they chose Crawford instead of Sergey Lipinets from Russia, who was a mandatory choice with his IBF title.
Speaking at the same occasion, Indongo said he feels blessed to be at the right time at the right place and with the best team and sponsor (Mobile Telecommunications Limited) backing him to showcase his talent.
“I am always honoured to represent my country, and winning against a world class and undefeated fighter like Terence Crawford will be a bonus,” said Indongo.
He added that he had left social media because he did not want to be distracted while preparing for one of the greatest fights in his career.
