TSUMEB, 02 JUL (NAMPA) – The Oshikoto governor has warned the youth and youth leaders under the National Youth Council (NYC) to refrain from all sorts of tribalism and regionalism activities.
Henock Kankoshi issued this stern warning to regional youth leaders who gathered here on Saturday for the NYC’s Fourth Representative Council meeting.
Kankoshi commended the initiative of bringing youth leaders from all 14 regions and different youth organisations together to discuss matters affecting them.
“We are gathered here for the sole purpose of harnessing unity in our country, which is seemingly deterred by tribal propaganda activities by some countrymen,” he said.
The governor said the youth are future leaders and the backbone of any nation, therefore their involvement on issues of national development is essential.
Kankoshi said regional youth leaders represent thousands of voiceless Namibian youth, who do not have a chance to air their concerns or make an input to the plans of the country.
“It is our sincere wish as national leaders to have the youth accessing universities, free from drugs and HIV/Aids,” he stated.
Kankoshi wants to see all young Namibians contribute to the development of science, technologies, sports, medicine and other sectors relevant to rural communities of the country.
The meeting started Friday and ended Saturday.
