WALVIS BAY, 02 JUL (NAMPA) – The half-decomposed carcass of a pregnant rhino with its horns removed was discovered at a game farm in the Omaruru area on Saturday.
The discovery was made by workers at around 08h30.
Crime Investigations Coordinator for the Namibian Police Force in the Erongo Region, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu on Sunday said the horns are worth about N.dollars 600 000.
A police incident report from Iikuyu says the horns were not recovered and no suspects have been arrested yet.
It is suspected that four poachers shot and killed the rhino and removed the horns.
“Four sets of footprints were found at the scene where the animal was shot about four to five days ago,” reads the report.
The police are requesting the public’s assistance in providing information which can lead to the arrest of those involved in the poaching incident.
Investigations continue.
