ONAWA, 01 JUL (NAMPA) – Finance Deputy Minister Natangwe Ithete has said education is the key to unlocking the doors of prosperity for all Namibians.
Ithete said this at Onawa Secondary School in the Omusati Region whilst officiating at the Anamulenge Circuit Awards on Thursday.
The best performing learners, teachers and schools from the circuit received certificates, medals and trophies at the event.
“As a government, we cannot over-emphasise the role of education institutions in the contribution they make to the country’s national development agenda,” Ithete told those present.
He said the Namibian Government prioritises education and as such, it has allocated about a quarter of its annual budget to the education sector since Independence in 1990.
Onawa Secondary School and Canisianum Roman Catholic School were declared the circuit’s two schools with the best Grade 10 examination results of 2016 for their 100 per cent pass rate.
DAPP Private School came second with 88.6 per cent, while in third place was Oshikulufitu Combined School with 85 per cent.
Oshikulufitu was also the most improved school as its pass rate of 34.4 per cent in the 2015 Grade 10 examinations improved to 85 per cent in 2016.
