Junias, Hamunyela qualify for World Boxing Championships

WINDHOEK, 26 JUN (NAMPA) - Amateur boxers Mathias Hamunyela and Jonas Junias qualified for the 2017 Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA) World Boxing Championships after winning gold in Congo-Brazzaville.
The championships will be held in Hamburg, Germany from 25 August to 03 September 2017.
The two boxers, as well as Matheus Kasolo, competed in the 2017 African Boxing Championships in Congo-Brazzaville from 17 to 25 June.
Hamunyela and Junias, who competed at the 2015 All Africa Games where both won silver medals, finished as winners of their respective categories on Sunday at the African Boxing Championships.
Both boxers also participated in the 2016 Olympic Games, but failed to win any silverware.
They fought in the 49 kilogramme (kg) and 64kg categories, respectively.
Kasolo was the only fighter who did not win a medal in the 60kg category.
In the finals of the competition, Hamunyela beat Fotsala Simplice of Cameroon, while Junias beat Eslam Ahmed Aly Mohamed to book themselves places in the finals of the AIBA World Boxing Championships.
The boxers are expected back in Namibia Tuesday morning.
