WINDHOEK, 26 JUN (NAMPA) – A man in a critical condition has been hospitalised after he was shot in the head by a Namibian Defence Force member in the Shandumbala residential area of Windhoek on Friday.
The soldier was arrested and is due to appear in court this week, said a statement issued by the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Khomas Region on Sunday.
His licensed 7.65 millimetre pistol was confiscated.
Police said the man was shot after he drove the soldier's sedan into a shebeen.
In a separate incident, a woman was Friday robbed at gunpoint at her home in the area of Herero Mall in Katutura.
The victim told police two unknown men entered her house while she was asleep and ordered her to cover her face with a blanket.
They fled the scene with N.dollars 1 800 cash, a mobile phone, cameras and a television set. The value of the items are estimated at around N.dollars 40 000.
No arrests have yet been made and investigations continue.
In an unrelated matter, three men were arrested Sunday after a robbery in Pioneerspark on Friday.
Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) footage making its rounds on social network sites show a man approaching the victim’s sport utility vehicle just as it stopped in his driveway. The suspect smashed the left window but the victim held onto a black bag containing personal documents and N.dollars 30 000. Seconds later, the robber managed to grab the bag and ran towards a blue sedan. A second suspect could be seen approaching the scene but ran back when he saw his accomplice with the bag. The getaway car had no registration plates.
The victim was slightly injured during the fracas.
