Memorial service in honour of Ya Toivo on Friday

WINDHOEK, 21 JUN (NAMPA) – A memorial service for the late Andimba Toivo ya Toivo will be held at the Independence Stadium in the capital on Friday.
The event will commence at 12h00, according to a media statement issued by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology on Wednesday.
The burial service will be held on Saturday at Heroes’ Acre starting at 09h00. The gates will open at 06h00.
Municipal buses will pick up members of the public for both memorial and burial services from bus stops in the Katutura East Constituency.
The government has declared Wednesday to Saturday as the period of national mourning, therefore public and private institutions should fly the national flag and other official flags at half-mast across the country during this period.
Ya Toivo died on 09 June at the age of 92.
He served as a Member of Parliament and held various ministerial portfolios after independence in 1990.
He retired from active politics in 2006.
Ya Toivo was born on 22 August 1924 at the Omangundu village in the Oshikoto Region.
He is survived by his wife Vicky and twin daughters, Nashikoto and Mutaleni.
