WINDHOEK, 21 JUN (NAMPA) - Boxing Promoter Nestor Tobias on Wednesday gave the strongest possible hint that Julius Indongo will fight Terrence Crawford in a bid to unify the Lightweight division in the next coming months.
Speaking during a courtesy call to Police Inspector General Sebastian Ndeitunga, Tobias said talks between Crawford and Indongo's handlers were at an advanced stage.
Indongo is a Warrant Officer (2) in the police force, and had gone to present his belts to his superiors.
“We are waiting for the final document before we can make an announcement with regards to that fight,” Tobias said.
The promoter, who doubles as a trainer, said they had agreed with Crawford's camp on most of the things regarding the fight, with only a few minor issues now outstanding
He said the academy's biggest aim is to try and wrestle the other two belts; World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organisation super lightweight belts; from Crawford so as to make Indongo an undisputed world champion.
Indongo currently holds the International Boxing Federation, International Boxing Organisation and World Boxing Association Belts in the same weight division.
Tobias said there is currently no undisputed champion in the world, hence this provides Namibia with a chance to create history.
He disclosed that they had received a lot of offers from other fighters who want to challenge Indongo, but they were currently focused on Crawford.
“We want to make sure that Indongo is taken care of, Namibia is put on the world map and the team Sunshine also benefits from this,” he explained.
