RUNDU, 21 JUNE (NAMPA) - Rector of the Swapo party school, Marco Hausiku has asked youth to emulate the leadership qualities of the late Herman Andimba Toivo Ya Toivo.
Hausiku said youth should imitate the qualities of humility, selflessness and humbleness that Ya Toivo possessed.
He was addressing Ya Toivo's memorial service in Rundu on Tuesday, where he described the late liberation struggle icon as a “visionary leader”.
“We should learn from what Ya Toivo has taught us. We should learn from his leadership qualities that many of us do not have,” the former deputy prime minister emphasised.
Hausiku said Namibia should not only honour Ya Toivo with words and tears, but by appreciating his work.
He said humbleness should apply to all Namibians irrespective of status in society, adding Namibia should not be run by arrogant people but by selfless ones.
Ya Toivo was born on 22 August 1924 at Omangundu village in the Oshikoto Region and died at the age of 92 at his Windhoek home on 09 June.
He will be buried at the Heroes Acre on Saturday, 24 June.
Swapo Party regional leaders, Governor of Kavango East, Samuel Mbambo and Mayor of Rundu, Verna Sinimbo including veterans of the liberation struggle were also present at the memorial service.
